From its inception, the Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter of the APA has been interested in contributing to local charities, both financially and with public service. The chapter recognizes the importance of giving back to the community, and the abundance of charitable organizations in the DC area provides ample opportunity to do so.
How do we raise the funds?
The WMAC-APA has a raffle at each of our bi-monthly chapter meetings and at our Tri-State Conference. For the cost of a raffle ticket(s) (1 ticket for $1, 7 tickets for $5 and 20 tickets for $10), the chapter member or guest has a chance to win a beautiful gift basket, gift card or one of several other prizes that vary per meeting. The chapter then matches all funds raised.

At the February and April 2009 Chapter meetings, we raised funds for the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital. During this fundraising activity and with the chapter match, we were able to donate $1,155.00 for children who would not be able to attend various Girl Scout activities. During these tough economic times, the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital are being approached more and more for grants to send children to various Girl Scout camps. Thanks to the members of the WMAC-APA, we have helped local children be able to attend various camps. More pictures can be found in the photo gallery under "About WMAC".
In addition to TAPS, we also collected Books and DVD's to send to our troops. We collected over 10 boxes of items to send. Thanks to our members for supporting this supplemental community activity by bringing items to the meeting.
These pictures are from a unit in Iraq. They were collected at our chapter meeting in February and shipped to the unit by Whitney, Bradley and Brown (a member company).
Thanks for Your Support
The WMAC-APA is very proud of its continued community service efforts. The many thank-you notes we receive from these charities make it all worth the effort. So please join us at our meetings as we serve each other and the community.
Thanks to all members who have shown their support!
