A Letter from our President

Welcome and greetings to all WMAC-APA members and friends,

As President of the Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter of the American Payroll Association, I am honored to lead one of the best and most active payroll chapters for Payroll Professionals in the country.  My aspirations for our chapter is to increase  membership, become more actively involved with our communities, build strong internal and external relations and create strategies for mentoring each other, while striving for excellence.

Our new location is a familiar face, the Fairview Park Marriott, in Falls Church, VA., where chapter meetings, the CPP/FPC study group and Tri-State 2011 annual conference will be held.

Last year we had success in several areas:

·                     Tri-State 2009 Payroll A-Z, 1-2-3.  We had an impressive group of speakers and were honored by the presence of Daniel Dycus, CPP, APA’s Payroll Man of the Year, 2009!

·                     Back by popular demand the social event was a Murder Mystery of “Who Did It” performed by Murder Mystery Will Travel.

·                     Our Education Committee, Eileen Buckley and Carol Mitchell had several challenges last year. Their diligent, patience and commitment, working late evenings and weekends paid off by adding 4 new CPPs and 2 FPCs to our ranks. Congratulations to all!

At our December meeting, Tricia Tumarkin, Past President presented the WMAC Payroll Professional of the Year Award to Carol Mitchell, Education Co Chair and a presenter at Tri State. Carol, congratulations again!

Elections were also held at the December meeting where the officer positions were filled as follows:  Linda Dailey as President-Elect, Margaret Roark as Treasurer and Vivian Hoffmaster as Secretary.  In addition, we have great committee chairs and welcome 4 new committee members:

Tara Dwyer – Community Relations Chair

Julia Lopez Divack, CPP – Education Co Chair

Erika Pittman, CPP– Meeting/Planning Co Chair

Charlotte Hodges – Chapter Relations Chair

On the national front, APA will host their 28th annual Congress May 25th – 29th, at the Gaylord National Harbor & Convention Center, in National Harbor, Maryland. Go to www.americanpayroll.org for details.  I hope to see you there!

Our Annual Tri-State will not be held this year due to APA’s annual Congress. We look forward to Tri State, 2011. Please be sure to check for updates and friendly reminders during the upcoming months.

I am excited and look forward to this year as President.  All of the officers and committee chairs are here to help us be the best.  This is your chapter and you can help this chapter to meet its goals by volunteering just a few hours of your time to serve on one of our many committees.  Take a peek at: www.wmac-apa.org and if you see one that interests you, please contact the committee chair for details.  Please feel free to contact me by e-mail any time with suggestions, comments and or questions.

Regards,

Michele D. Eure
