Chapter History

The Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter had its first meeting in the fall of 1982 and was officially formed in January of 1983. Its first meeting as an official chapter, held in Tyson's Corner, Virginia, was attended by only 8 people. Officers were elected at that meeting and meeting dates were established. Due to increased membership over the years, the chapter has moved its meeting location several times, and is currently meeting in Falls Church, Virginia at the Marriott Fairview Park.

The chapter's first full day meeting in 1985 has evolved into an annual Tri-State Conference. This conference includes a vendor hall, general sessions and educational workshops tailored to benefit today's Payroll Professional.

What started as an informal gathering has developed into a well-organized group of Payroll Professionals that stand behind the American Payroll Association's objectives. As the chapter that is located in our nation's capitol, we have an extraordinary opportunity to affect legislation and keep abreast of the latest regulations and laws that affect our daily activities. The WMAC is dedicated to serving its members and is committed to continued growth and success in the years to come.
