Team WMAC Joins the 2014 “Walk to End HIV”

Did you know that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now estimate that more than one million Americans are living with HIV.  Up to one-third of them do not know they are HIV-positive.  It’s estimated that one in every 20 adults in the District of Columbia is infected with HIV.  In a city where 3% of adults are known to have HIV and an additional 3% are infected but don’t know it, the Walk to End HIV plays a vital role in raising funds and awareness to fight the epidemic.

Walk to End HIV is a fundraising walk and 5K timed run benefiting and produced by Whitman-Walker Health. Whitman-Walker Health is a non-profit community based health organization which provides dependable, high-quality, comprehensive and accessible health care to those infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.  On Saturday October 25th, Team WMAC will join thousands of walkers (and nearly 500 teams) to participate in the Walk to End HIV.

How can you help?  There are several ways to participate and support Team WMAC.  You can join the team as a walker or runner, you can volunteer to help at the event, or you can show your monetary support to help Team WMAC reach our fundraising goal of $2,500.

Information about the walk, Whitman-Walker Health, and Frequently Asked Questions can be found on the Aidswalk Washington website at www.aidswalkwashington.org

If you can’t join the walk, but still want to participate, please contact Abbey Moran at President-Elect@wmac-apa.org to coordinate alternative opportunities.
